It’s finally the day when the UK gets to decide which party is going to hold the seats of power for the next 5 years or so. So we were chuffed to see that The Labour Party made extensive use of the audioboo platform during our first campaign.

Their ‘In the Campaign‘ initiative was a damm fine good stab at embracing social media, particularly using Audioboo. Nice use of our geo-location data to map the boos across the UK and a cast of characters interviewed including Glenys Kinnock, Cherie Blair, Yvette Cooper, Harriet Harman, Ed Balls, Alan Johnson, Frank Dobson and, of course, Gordon Brown.

In addition, a bunch of local candidates have been booing (sorry for not having the time to link), Rory Cellan Jones from the BBC kept an audioboo election diary and we’re currently tracking a selection of election themed boos, which we’ll update as the night goes on.

One of the key philosophies behind audioboo is the idea of a social voice. Twitter does text really well but the idea of an answerphone message for the world to hear and respond to is still our goal. Going forward, that voice may be heard by one person, a group of friends or everyone who wants to. We’re some way off that vision but we’ve been enthused by how naturally people have embraced the platform in this campaign and it’s given us clear lessons on how to develop going forward. So thank you.

So enter Tweetminster at the Liberal Party Conference. They did a fascinating collection of boos with Paddy Ashdown, Jo Swinson MP, Shami Chakrabarti, Director of Liberty and more. And we’ve just heard via Twitter that Krishnan Guru-Murthy of C4 News is going to do the same at the Labour conference.

I think with the UK election already in the phony war stage, this could get interesting!

UPDATE 30th September
The Labour Party Conference was simply brimming with boos, thanks to Tweetminster & C4 News. Some amazing stuff captured, including Ed Balls, Michael Crick, Chris Eubank, David Blunkett, Margaret Beckett and Peter Mandelson. If there is an election in April 2010, there’s a strong chance Audioboo will be a big part of it.
