Calling all storytellers

The art of storytelling is widely celebrated throughout history and a multitude of different cultures, and Audioboo give you the chance to simply record and share your stories with the world. With this in mind, Audioboo has teamed up with the Settle Storytelling Festival to launch a storytelling competition, so it’s time to dust off that vocabulary, search your synapses for a suitable story and submit it to the competition. Simply visit the Settle Storytelling Competition page on Audioboo and either click to record, or upload an existing story to them.

“Reading stories is great, but I’m passionate about helping people discover the joy of listening to and telling stories – making tales up in the moment, engaging hearts and minds, freeing the imagination and firing the creative spirit” says Sita Brand, founder of the Settle Storytelling Festival. “Everyone has a story in them and our Audioboo competition is all about introducing new people to the art of storytelling.”

Speaking at the Edinburgh Book Festival, Scottish novelist Angus Peter Campbell said that storytelling allows you to “explore who you are” in this interview with EdBookFest:

Supported by Audioboo, Settle Storytelling Festival takes place between 6th to the 9th of October in North Yorkshire and the 2011 programme boasts a family friendly line up of established and contemporary storytelling talent from home and abroad.

Your stories will be judged by the UK’s storytelling laureate Taffy Thomas and the winning entry receives a luxury two night break for a family of four at The Coniston Hotel, Skipton, North Yorkshire.  Runner-up prizes are available and the overall winner will be announced at the festival. The competition closes on 25 September 2011.
