London riots continue, Londoners pull together

I’m writing this from my local community centre where local residents have banded together to create a makeshift canteen for the police. Apparently Waltham Forest doesn’t have a canteen for them, and since they are working such long and difficult hours we wanted to do our bit.

I’ve never seen anything like this. It’s breaking my heart. Throughout the day I’ve been listening to Audioboos from looters and the looted. I’ve been angry, sad, and felt powerless to make a difference. All I can do is try to highlight the stories and share them with you.

If you’re in an affected area, firstly, stay safe, and listen to police advice about staying home and out of the way. As tempting as it might be to try and get photographs of what’s going on, the police don’t need extra people to worry about. Secondly, if you’ve witnessed anything, been affected, or been part of the effort to get London back on its feet again, please do share your stories. You can Audioboo them via our website audioboo.fm or by downloading the app to your smartphone. Please add a photograph and geo-tag your boo so that we can add it to a map of Audioboos that people have recorded. Don’t forget to add the #londonriots tag (all one word) so that it shows up in search when others are trying to find out what’s going on – even if it’s in a different area – you can tag that location too.

This player is picking up the latest Audioboos that are coming in, from news organisations and members of the public alike.

The top boos today include two female looters celebrating after a night of drinking and stealing in Croydon (warning – this may make you angry):

and a bit of light relief from Hulk Hogan talking to Richard Bacon on BBC 5live this afternoon with his solution to the riots:

Tell us about what’s happening in your community to clean up after last night’s rioting. Have you, like us, pulled together to help the police? I would love to hear some more stories that can make me feel proud to say I’m a Londoner again.
