Have strum fun with Google’s Guitar and Audioboo

There’s been lots of chatter today about the Google doodle in memory of legendary guitarist Les Paul, who was one of the pioneers of solid bodied electric guitars.

Google Doodle for Les Paul's 96th birthday

The news of his death in 2009 hit the music industry hard, as you can hear from these Audioboos:

Today would have been Les Paul’s 96th birthday and so Google honoured him with a playable guitar doodle in place of the Google logo on their search page. @bphillpotts suggested that people Audioboo their Google guitar compositions and we’ve been having a listen to them as they came in today.

If you’ve not had a play yet, then get cracking! Google Doodles are only there for the day. You can strum with your mouse or click the keyboard icon and type your tunes. Some nice people from the internetz have been working out which keys you need to press to play well-known tunes. Here are a few you might like to try*:

La Vie en Rose: I UYTEIU YTEGUYT OIUYRIU YTEQIUY
Redemption song – Bob Marley: A SD A FHGD ASDG DGDAS
Happy Birthday: GGHGKJ GGHGLK GGPKJH GGPKLK
Harry Potter Theme: C H KJH PL M N IJB UC
Clocks – Coldplay: PIY – PIY – P / OUT – OUT – O / OUT – OUT – O / IYR – IYR – I
Twinkle Twinkle Little Star: AAGGHHG FFDDSSA GGF DDS GGFFDDS AAGGHHG FFDDSSA

If you’re really up for a challenge you could try recording the Pirates of the Carribean song for me. I like pirates that look like Johnny Depp – and it is his birthday today too apparently! :)

Have fun – and tag your Audioboos as “googleboo” so we can find them and add them above!

*Audioboo take no responsibility for any discordant sounds you might produce… ;)
