API & Next Steps

Well, we finally released the API and you can find it at Google Code. Not quite there in terms of documentation but, you know: “Release early, release often“.

This is quite a milestone for us, as it begins the transition away from being seen merely as an iPhone app towards being a full platform for social audio. Whilst we’ll probably kickstart applications for other mobile platforms such as Nokia & Android, in the future we’ll look to work much more on supporting the developing efforts of ‘proper’ mobile applications.

To this end, we are going to open up our iPhone frameworks (the bits that do all the recording, posting and playback) to any iPhone developer wishing to incorporate Audioboo effortlessly into their app. Sure there’s the full API to do that but this will be more along the lines of copy & paste, with the added advantage of knowing there’s 9 months of development work & bug fixing behind that.

That’s probably one bit of news I should have saved for the Audioboo party (supported very ably by our hosts Sun Startup Essentials and the pioneering people at media140) on Thursday 6th August in London. It’s for as many audiobooers as can make it and is being hosted under the banner of ‘Audioboo: Next Steps’. Because if anyone is going to make us a success, it’s the vibrant, strong and downright lovely people we have on Audioboo and we want to hear from them what the hell we should be doing next to make this thing a success. Alongside some food & drink and hopefully a few announcements.

If you can’t make it, don’t worry. There’s certain to be a cacophony of boos starting at 6pm London time, so make sure you’re listening.

Awesome. I adore the first bloom of a new social service, and Audioboo has meant as much to me, maybe more in some ways, than Twitter. It’s British for a start, made me fall in love with the broad possibilities of sound and cemented two of my two passions – language and code.

I’m excited about the party – a chance to put faces to boos, meet the Audioboo team again and obviously get very, very drunk.

I’ll raise more than one glass to Mark and the team in very good company!

  • thanks for the news about the party, but …. where is it happening?
