Boo Radio

It might be guessable from the address of the website – audioboo.fm – that when we were thinking about the Audioboo concept, radio had a big part in that. Spoken word radio is great but it’s sadly in deep decline – at least here in the UK. We’re lucky to have the excellent Radio 4 from the BBC but local radio is in trouble.

So we’re playing about with live streams of boos. Here in the office we’ve got it setup so that every time a boo gets made our iTunes server fades out the music, plays the boo and then fades the music back up. It’s fascinating stuff (if a little scary).

The next step is to configure a live internet stream that will play every boo that comes in. If that works, then we’ll look at streams separated by tags. Imagine an NR2 or Birmingham tag filtering boos out to play ultra local audio across the internet.

Keep you posted (oh and that was a very cool boo remix that just played out)

From a Blog Post a while back:

“Here in the office we’ve got it setup so that every time a boo gets made our iTunes server fades out the music, plays the boo and then fades the music back up”

Is this possible to do by users as well – Would be cool to be able to listen to them as they come in…or would this cause issues with server bandwidth?
